It’s a painful agony to be ignored,

Eyes politely turned away; total exclusion.

Crowds are lonely places of mass self absorption;

Myriad eyes look but do not see the lonely soul.

To break into that circle of self-centredness

Opens the door to embarrassing hostility.

Like being a lone supporter at an away game,

The warm and friendly smile meets with a frozen glare.

Is what is seen, unseen to their self-absorbed eyes?

Oh, if only that was the case! Then pain would ease

And there’d be an escape route into nothingness.

But in this swirling miasma of worthlessness

A pinpoint of warm and friendly light is shining,

A wellspring of bright colour unique to us all.
